INDIAN COAST GUARD HONOURS AND AWARDS PRESENTED

The Union Defence Minister Shri AK Antony presented awards and honours to the personnel of Indian Coast Guard at an impressive Investiture Ceremony at the Coast Guard District Headquarters No 4, Fort Kochi here today. Inspector General Satya Prakash Sharma, Commander, Coast Guard Region (Notth West) received the President’s Tatrakshak Medal for Distinguished Service. Inspector General Khajan Chandra Pande received the Tatrakshak Medal for Meritorious service.

Commandant Deepak Sharma, became the first person in the Indian Coast Guard to recive the Taatrakshak Medal the second time when he received a Tatrakshak Medal for Gallantry. Other Tatrakshak (Gallantry) awardees were, Commandant (Junior Grade) Ashok Kumar Yadav, Commandant (Junior Grade) Narendra Singh, Deputy Commandant Aravind Kumar Tyagi, Deputy Commandant Sidharth Bhandari, Pradeep Kumar Uttam Navik (RP), Manish Uttam Navik (QA).

Tatrakshak Medals for Meritorious service were also awarded to DIG Mohinder Singh Dangi, DIG Bikram Keshari Patasahani, DIG Ashok Kumar Singh Chouhan, DIG Ashok Kumar, DIG Narendra Kumar, Commandant Manoj

Kumar Padhi, Unnikrishnan Shankar, Sahayak Engineer (ER), and Manjith Kumar Adhikari (AL) (Retd).

In his address to the Parade the Defence Minister informed the audience that the process of acquisition of 20 Fast Patrol Vessels, 41 Interceptor Boats, 12 Coastal Surveillance Aircraft and 7 Offshore Patrol Vessels is underway. The installation of the chain of 46 static radar stations is nearly complete the Minister said. Shri Antony also expressed the satisfaction at the synergy achieved between all security agencies involved in Cooastal Defence. He also promised continued support from the Government for rapid expansion of the Coast Guard. The Defence Minister concluded with the optimism that the Coastal areas of the country were safe in the hands of Indian Coast Guard.

Vice Admiral Anil Chopra Director General of Indian Coast Guard, Vice Admiral KN Sushil, Flag Officer Commanding in Chief and senior officers from the Indian Coast Guard and Navy witnessed the ceremony along with the families of the awardees.
