FOUNDATION STONE LAYING OF INDIAN COAST GUARD AIR ENCLAVE, KOCHI

The Union Minister of Defence Shri AK Antony, today laid the foundation stone of the Coast Guard Air Enclave at Chowara, near Cochin International Airport (CIAL) today. The Chetak helicopter Squadron and the Dornier Squadron along with Advanced Light Helicopters are expected to be based here. The Air Enclave would have a 50m taxi link to the run way at CIAL and would consist of aircraft hangars, technical areas and administrative buildings.

In his inaugural address the Defence Minister announced that as part of strengthening the Coastal Defence architecture, more such enclaves for Coast Guard Air operations are planned at New Mangalore, Goa and Visakhapatnam. Shri Antony also informed that the expansion plans of the Indian Coast Guard are happening at a rapid pace.

Shri NK Dhanapalan, Member of Parliament, Shri Jose Thettayil, Minister for transport, Kerala State, Director general of Indian Coast Guard, Vice Admiral Anil K Chopra, Vice Admiral KN Sushil, Flag Officer Commanding in Chief Southern Naval Command, Inspector General SPS Basra, Commander Coast Guard Region (West) along with personnel from the Indian Coast Guard and Navy were present on the occasion.
