61st ALL INDIA SERVICES BOXING CHAMPIONSHIP


               The 61st All India Services Boxing Championship was held in INS Hamla from 17 to 20 Oct 11.Boxers from the three services (Indian Army (Red & Green), Indian Navy and Indian Air force) participated in the bouts contested in 11 weight categories. Rear Admiral Deepak Bali, Chief Guest of the event gave away the prizes to the winners and runners up.


               The Gold medal winners of the services Championship would go on to represent the services team in the National events and subsequently in the international events. The silver medal winners would also join the Services Team as reserve players for each weight category.

               Naval Boxing Team has been based at Hamla for over two decades now. The sport has undergone a complete makeover with the advent of newer equipment and newer methods of coaching and evaluation. Boxing has been a game for the valiant and it teaches the players to maintain and regain composure when the opponent's punches shake it. It teaches the men in uniform how to look at the enemy in the eye and face the challenge with courage and conviction.


               The 61th Services Boxing Championship has been a resounding success with the Army Red team emerged as winners and the Navy team finishing a close runner's up.
