Antony to Visit Japan Next Week


Regional and global security scenario, maritime security, piracy in the gulf of Aden and co-operation in the filed of humanitarian assistance and terrorism are some of the issues which will figure prominently during the talks that the Defence Minister Shri AK Antony will hold with his Japanese counterpart Mr Yasho Jchikawa during his one day visit to Japan on Wednesday, Nov 02, 2011.

Both sides will also discuss co-operation between the Armed Forces of both countries in the fields of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, training and co-operation in UN Peacekeeping operations and other bilateral exchanges. Co-operation through regional/multilateral for a like the Asean Defence Ministers Meeting Plus (ADMM+) will also be discussed.

A high level delegation including the Defence Secretary Shri Shashikant Sharma, the Vice Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral RK Dhowan and GoC-in-C, Central Command, Lt Gen VK Ahluwalia will accompany Shri Antony. This visit of Shri Antony is in reciprocation to the Japanese Defence Minister’s visit to India in April 2010.
